The 100-year old Aligarh Muslim University is setting up an oxygen plant and has made arrangement for the makeshift Covid-19 wards in the campus to join India’s fight against Covid-19 as it rages like a wildfire in its second wave.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College of AMU has asked the major drug manufacturers for supplying essential drugs like Remedesivir injection used for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Recently, the registrar and vice-chancellor of the AMU announced a budget of Rs 1.41 crore has been for setting an oxygen plant in the medical college. The plant is expected to be installed at the soonest and will bring a lot of relief to the residents of the city.

The staff of the Dental and Tibia College has been moved to the Trauma Center of the Medical college to augment the strength of the medical personnel to handle the expected huge rush of Covid patients.

AMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor says that the AMU is fully prepared to fight the pandemic.

He has sent an email to the chairman of Cipla Company seeking a big consignment of injections and other drugs. The medical college has also added to its bed strength by creating makeshift wards.

Prof Tariq Mansoor in his letter addressed to the AMU family has asked the people living on the campus and outside to take all precautions to prevent the Covid infection and arrest its spread. It is said that you should avoid going in the crowd.

At least 12 faculty members including some retired professors of the AMU had died of Covid-19 in the last week.
