The government today decided that there will be no examination for the students of the 12th class for the CBSE and CISCE boards this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in whileunion Ministers for information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar and Defence minister Rajnath Singh were present. Union education minister Ramesh Nishank Pokhriyal is hospitalized due to post-Covid complications.

Taking a call on this contentious issue was important as the government has to be informed about its decision to SupremeCourt on June 3.

The SC is hearing a plea seeking cancelation of class 12 board exams and has asked govt to come up with a ‘good reason’ who it wants to deviate from last year’s plan to cancel class 12 board exams, if at all.

Prime Minister said at the meeting that the “health and safety of our students is of utmost importance and there would be no compromise on this aspect.”
