The makers of Sunny Deol's upcoming period drama have officially unveiled its new title, Batwara 1947, along with a motion poster announcing its theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
Previously known as Lahore 1947, the film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and is set against the turbulent backdrop of India's Partition. The motion poster hints at an emotionally charged narrative centred on a man who rises above hatred and fear to choose courage during one of the most difficult chapters in the subcontinent's history.
Sharing the announcement on social media, Aamir Khan Productions wrote, "In times of hatred and fear, he chose courage. Watch #Batwara1947 in theatres from 14th August 2026."
The film features an ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol and includes veteran actor Shabana Azmi, Preity Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal, Abhimanyu Singh, Khhushi Hajare and Kanikka Kapur in pivotal roles.
Batwara 1947 marks the reunion of Sunny Deol and director Rajkumar Santoshi after nearly three decades. The actor-director duo has previously delivered acclaimed hits such as Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak, making this collaboration one of the most anticipated projects on the horizon.
The film is backed by Aamir Khan Productions, with Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit serving as producers. Adding to the project's appeal, the music has been composed by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, while the lyrics have been penned by renowned poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar.
