Maulana Arshad Madani, president of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, said in a statement that it was unfortunate that no legal action had been taken against the miscreants who burned mosques and homes of many Muslims in Tripura six months ago.

His remarks came as he handed over Itinagar's “Isa Chadha Mosque” to worshippers. The mosque in Itanagar was gutted in the frenzy and has been rebuilt by the Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind. On the occasion, Taraweeh's prayers were also held on the premises.

Madani expressed regret over the lack of concrete action against the miscreants of the October violence.

The Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind in Tripura not only visited the riot victims but also has been engaged in reconstructing mosques and homes that were damaged or gutted in the violence.

Maulana Arshad Madani while expressing his views on the occasion said that the wounds inflicted by the miscreants on the Muslim minorities of Tripura are very deep and they can be healed only when those involved are punished. He said that since day one, the Jamiat has been asking the Tripura government to take steps to ensure the safety of life and property of the Muslims and strict action be taken against the culprits involved in the October violence.

He said if such people continue to enjoy freedom and political patronage, their morale would be further boosted and there is a good possibility of them becoming repeat offenders.

Madani said no country can develop unless justice is done to its minorities by adopting a discriminatory attitude towards any community. He said legal course against culprits not only assures justice but also becomes a deterrence for those contemplating similar action.

Maulana Madani explained that his fight is not against a particular political party but against the forces that have trampled the secular values of the country and tried to oppress the people.

“Efforts are being made to create religious fanaticism by raising various unnecessary issues in the minds of the people. There is no need to repeat what has happened to the minorities especially Muslims in the last few years,” he said in a statement released after dedicating the reconstructed mosque to the devotees.

“Attempts are being made not only to provoke Muslims but also to sideline them by creating new conflicts.” He added and praised Muslims for showing exemplary patience in such trying times.

"We should continue to show this kind of patience," he said.

Madani and others were received by the Muslims as well as the local Hindu community. The mosque has been rebuilt with some additional features. Jamiat is also going to reconstruct and repair the other affected mosques in the state. However, that project is running late due to some unresolved legal and technical complications.
However, Madani said all the mosques will be rebuilt and repaired.
