Srinagar’s Mayor Junaid Mattu today inaugurated a Sufi festival, the first one of the series to be launched as part of the week-long “iconic festivals” across the Union territory.

 

The Iconic festivals are being conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism. The purpose of the program is to pass on the Sufi traditions of Kashmir to the new generation and to give the message of brotherhood and peace as propounded by the Sufis to the world.

 

Many people associated with the Sufi movement participated in the program. The program was directed by leading broadcaster and poet Satish Amal. He described the centuries-old Sufi movement in Kashmir as the confluence and brain behind all religions.

 

Amal referred to the message of the great Sufis like Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani and Lalleshwari and expressed his happiness over the government’s efforts in organising this festival.

 

He said there is a need to spread the message of the Sufis of Kashmir to the world. 

 

Iqbal, a member of Delhi Gharana, presented the composition of Amir Khusro at the inauguration.

 

Secretary, Tourism Department, Sarmad Hafeez said that many such programs will be organized to spread the message of Sufis so that this great civilization of Kashmir can be spread all over the world.

The Sufi Festival

 

Wasit Iqbal described the Sufi movement of Kashmir as the solution to all the problems of the present era.

 

Pro. Afaq Aziz highlighted the words and philosophy of Lalleshwari and her devotion to Sheikh Nooruddin Noorani. He said that the Muslims of Kashmir and the Kashmiri Pandits and Sikhs have equal love and devotion for all these Sufis.

 

Srinagar Mayor Junaid Azam Mattoo in his speech emphasized the need to spread the message of Sufis in the present era of extremism and turmoil. Junaid Azam said that Sufism is an integral part of our civilization and our new generation. Express their word and message.

 

 On this occasion, a film, Raeshwaer (Abode of Rishis) was also shown about the Sufi traditions of Kashmir.

 

 

Festivals on themes like Music, tourism. Folk traditions etc will be held across the Union territory.
