Syed Nasruddin Chishty, Chairman, All India Sufi Sajjadadanashin Council (AISSC) and caretaker of the Ajmer Sharif Dargah has strongly condemned the “shameful and un-Islamic acts of vandalism” during the Durga Puja targeting the minority community in Bangladesh.

In a statement, Chisty said the “the attacks on mandaps, pandals, and temples are highly condemnable and un-pardonable.”

He said the perpetrators of this violence are the “real enemies of Islam” and all these attacks are “against the spirit of Islam and the teachings of Prophet Mohammad.”

AISSC asked Bangladesh to carry out a fair investigation and take strong action against the perpetrators of this senseless violence.

He urged people not to follow social media posts and videos blindly and use discretion while sharing sensational content. He said in Bangladesh the troublemakers had used social media platforms to spread fake news and lies to escalate violence.

Chisty said the suspicion about the latest violence in Bangladesh was on a “political-religious radical organization backed by Pakistan.” He said the same organization was also trying to wipe out the liberal Islamic culture that encourages free thought and progressive ideas to replace it with a hard-line puritan Islamic culture by trying to sow the seeds of intolerance, hatred, indifference, and violence.

In the meanwhile, the authorities in Bangladesh have launched a hunt for a person named Iqbal Hossain, who had apparently placed a Quran in front of the statue of Lord Hanumana on Comila and walked away with the deity’s ‘gada’.

Video footage of the said man walking away with Humnuman’s ‘gada’ is going viral on social media.

The violence against Durga Puja was triggered after some people found a Quran placed in the Durga Puja pandal and t spread to other areas.
