In an effort to inculcate values of self-defence, Aanya Foundation has tied up with government girls schools across Kota in Rajasthan to teach students the art of self-defence.

The NGO, co-founded by Anjali Birla, a civil servant and daughter of Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla, took up this initiative to help school girls by tying up with government schools in the district.

Girls studying in class 6th to 12th will be given free of cost training for a period of three months.

The campaign called ‘Nirbhik’ is the biggest campaign of its kind in the entire country. Nearly 3000 girl students in 10 schools across Kota will be trained in self-defence.

The campaign was launched in Kota on November 19. It was inaugurated by Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist Geeta Phogat.

According to Aanya Foundation,” There are real life challenges girls face. School curriculum does not include self-defence as a subject. It has for long been ignored by schools. One day or three-day camps are not enough.”
