West Bengal Minister Agnimitra Paul on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, saying she should be “booked and arrested” following the arrival of a CID team at her residence.
Speaking to ANI, Paul said the action by the Criminal Investigation Department demonstrates that no individual is above the Constitution or the law. She added that the development reflects institutional accountability and rule of law.
The Minister alleged that during her tenure as Chief Minister, Banerjee misused her authority and allowed corruption and crime to flourish in the state. She further claimed that the former CM acted with disregard for constitutional institutions and treated West Bengal as if it were beyond the jurisdiction of national governance.
“It only shows that nobody is above the Constitution, and nobody is above the law of the land,” Paul said, adding that alleged wrongdoing under the previous administration would be investigated and those responsible brought to justice.
Paul also accused Banerjee of failing to ensure development in the state and alleged that governance was marked by corruption, syndicate activity, and neglect of women’s safety.
Responding to reports of internal dissent within the Trinamool Congress, Paul referred to a letter reportedly signed by 20 TMC MPs expressing willingness to align with the NDA. She claimed the development reflected dissatisfaction within the party over its functioning and ideological direction.
She further alleged that the TMC lacked a coherent ideology and said several elected representatives were distancing themselves due to concerns over corruption and governance failures.
Earlier, a rebel TMC MP reportedly acknowledged the development to ANI, indicating that a section of MPs had communicated their position to the Lok Sabha Speaker.
