The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has launched a 10-day campaign on social media to make Muslims aware of the simple and easy nikah, as enshrined in Shariat.

In the series of live programs and webinars. the experts would address the issue confronting the Muslims, especially the growing trend of dowry and ostentatious wedding ceremonies.

AIMPLB secretary Zafaryab Jilani said, "Because of Covid, it is not appropriate to organize public meetings or rallies, hence this campaign on social media has started.

Jilani said in the live shows, the experts are asking people to go for easy and simple weddings with the motive of eliminating the wasteful expenditure at the weddings.

He said though earlier too the board had been campaigning for simple weddings, now in the time of social media, the campaign has gone on all India scale. The Law Board had said there is an urgent need for launching a movement to check extravagance in the weddings.

The webinars on social media will continue till March 23.

The AIMPLB has counseled people that in a wedding the bride’s side should not have to throw a feast; the feasting should be confined to the wedding reception  and is to be thrown by the groom’s side.

As per Shariah, the nikah is described as an easy-to-do ceremony and people shouldn’t make it an expensive affair by getting into unnecessary rituals.

As part of this campaign, a video of Secretary Maulana Umreen Rahmani has gone viral on social media.

The campaign’s impact is visible as a lot of Muslims have started sharing pictures of their simple nikah ceremonies in the mosques on social media. Similar messages are also being given from the platforms of the mosques.
