A five-member team of super-special Cardiac surgeons of the Aligarh Muslim University is much in demand across the country for its ability to operate upon the children including infants for fixing defects in the hearts they are born with.

At present, this team is imparting training to the doctors in Madhya Pradesh and Manipur. The team comprises Dr Azim Hasin, Chairman of the Cordial Thoracic Surgery Department of JN Medical College, Dr Sabir Ali, Dr Shad Abkari, Dr Mayank Yadav and Dr SP Singh.

The team had conducted complex surgeries on the children with congenital defects in Rewa and Imphal several times.

Dr Azam Hasin says his team specializes in fixing the holes in the hearts that some children are born with and they are called blue babies, narrowing of the blood vessels, blockage in the veins, etc.

His team performs up to 40 surgeries in a month. These operations are being carried out under the National Child Health Program. Earlier the program was being run in Noida, Lucknow, and Banaras only. Now with this doctors team surgeries under the NCHP are being performed in the Medical College of Aligarh.

Besides treating children with heart ailments, the team also imparts training to the doctors.

Right now the team is preparing to go back to Rewa (Madhya Pradesh) and Imphal (Manipur).

Dr SP Singh told Awaz-the Voice says that usually, the practice is that surgery can be performed on a child after he has gained weight of ten kilos. However, his team has done surgery on a child weighing 2.5 kg.

The team, Dr Singh said, has performed surgery on a 20-day baby.

The team also  performs heart surgeries on grownups.
