The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association has voiced grave concern over the injury caused to an AMU student in a clash during a friendly cricket match.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Association said that it has written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to ensure the safety of all students of Jammu and Kashmir studying in different colleges in the state.

Sajid Husain who is in hospital, was allegedly hit on the head with a bat by his classmate Shobhit Singh after a minor altercation during a cricket match. Both of them are pursuing B.Tech in the College of Engineering and Technology and stay in the Nadeem Tarin Hall hostel in AMU (Aligarh Muslim University).

According to news reports, Sajid, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, was taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in an unconscious state. Nasir Khuehami, National Convenor, Jammu and Kashmir Students Association also urged the AMU authorities to immediately rusticate the student who had attacked the victim.

The statement said such incidents are creating a sense of insecurity among students from the region. The Association also appealed to students from the Union territory (UT) to live amicably in different colleges and avoid such incident. It, however, thanked the police chief of Aligarh, Kalanidhi Naithani for his intervention in the matter.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have described the condition of the injured student as “stable and under observation”. The student had suffered head and brain injuries and is in the Intensive Care Unit.
