A Muslim girl from Madhya Pradesh has blurred the religious differences as she not only recites shlokas of Bhagwad Gita but also knows their meaning.

This girl is Mushrif Khan of Chhindwara, a 12-year-old who studies in the eighth standard.

When she was in the sixth standard, she challenged her memory by memorizing the shlokas of Gita. Mushrif completed the recitation of 500 verses of this Hindu holy book in just two years.

A Muslim by faith Musharif can also recite the verses of the Quran.

Her extraordinary journey began when she met Vedic mathematician Rohini Menon. Rohini is a practitioner of memory retention, an ancient Indian art that was used in Gurukuls for making it easier for the students to learn Vedas and other ancient texts.

Mushrif was keen to join Rihini Menon’s short course on memory retention. The latter gave her three options to memorise: Indian Constitution, the dictionary and Bhagavad Gita. Mushrif chose Bhagavad Gita and memorized 500 verses. She is working towards memorising the remaining 201 verses.

Rohini is happy at Mushrif’s success. She says that Mushrif is the brightest among her students to whom she is teaching this ancient art. Others are also trying to memorize the verses, only Mushrif was able to memorize 500 verses so far.

She says Mushrif has learnt this art at a young age and she will surely go great things in future.

Mushrif says, "I wanted to do something unique through a short course. I chose Bhagavad Gita because my mother always taught me that outside your house you are only a human being.”

When she told her parents about her decision, they happily approved it.

Mushrif's father is a mathematics teacher and the mother Zeenat Khan a homemaker.

Zeenat Khan says that though they are Muslims, she wants to raise her daughter in a way that ends up respecting all religions. She says, Muslims who come to know of Mushrif’s achievement have a word of praise for her and nobody has objected to her learning Bhagwad Gita.
