The Maha Vikas Agadhi government in Maharashtra faced its most serious crisis on Tuesday with atleast one minister and a few MLAs from the ruling coalition parked in a Surat hotel.

Even though senior Sena leader, Sanjay Raut dimissed any threat to the government, he accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to topple the state government.

"There is no basis of a 'political earthquake'. There is an attempt to hit the MVA and a conspiracy is being hatched in Gujarat", Raut told a news agency.

The development comes hours after the MLC results were announced on Monday.

BJP won 5 seats, whereas the NCP and Shiv Sena won 2 seats each and Congress one.

All the five candidates put up by the opposition BJP – Pravin Darekar, Ram Shinde, Shrikant Bharatiya, Uma Khapre and Prasad Lad won. NCP’s Ramraje Nimbalkar and Eknath Khadse emerged victorious. The Shiv Sena nominees Aamshya Padavi and Sachin Ahir too secured their seats.

The Congress had fielded two candidates – Bhai Jagtap and Chandrakant Handore. While Jagtap won, Handore lost.

The BJP claimed cross-voting happened among members of Shiv Sena and Congress. Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam admitted Handore lost due to "internal sabotage".

Former NCP Ministers, Anil Deshmukh and Nawab Malik, who are in judicial custody in a money-laundering case were not allowed to vote. Both had moved the Supreme Court challenging the High Court verdict disallowing them from casting their franchise but got no relief from the apex court.
