The Karnataka High Court is slated to hear the writ petition of college students from Udupi who were banned from entering their college for wearing hijab in Karnataka this afternoon.

A Full Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Justice Krishna S Dixit, and Justice JM Khazi will hear the petition at 2.30 pm.

All eyes are on High Court as Justice Krishna S Dixit had referred the case to the Chief Justice for hearing the case before a larger bench since the case gives rise to certain constitutional questions of seminal importance about personal law.

Last evening, Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi constituted the full bench for hearing the case to which she nominated herself and two others. The Court has to decide whether the ban on hijab in the colleges impinges on personal law and violates the fundamental rights of the petitioners.

In the meanwhile, the education minister of Karnataka said the government is waiting for the Court's verdict to take a decisive step to address the issue of the use of religious symbols on campuses
