Indian High Commission assists stranded tourists in Sri Lanka after cyclone

Colombo

The Indian High Commission in Colombo is assisting stranded Indian tourists after Cyclone Ditwah triggered massive flooding, landslides and major flight disruptions across Sri Lanka, which is now under a state of emergency.

Acting High Commissioner Dr Satyanjal Pandey met affected passengers at Bandaranaike International Airport, assuring them of full support and India’s help in facilitating their return. Food, water and essential assistance are being provided.

The mission has shared a registration link and an emergency helpline (+94 773727832) for Indians needing support anywhere in Sri Lanka.

Cyclone Ditwah has left 153 dead and 191 missing, according to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre.

India has also launched Operation Sagar Bandhu, delivering around 27 tonnes of relief material and deploying NDRF teams and naval helicopters to assist rescue operations.
