One Indian student has lost his life in Kharkiv, the eastern region of Ukraine, this morning in the shelling, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi made this announcement on Twitter.

He wrote: "With profound sorrow, we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family. We convey our deepest condolences to the family," he wrote in the tweet.”
The fourth-year student of Medicine was standing in a queue to buy things when he was hit by a shell causing his death. He has been identified as Naveen Naveen Shekharappa Gyanagoudar, 20, from Karnataka. The authorities are yet to share information about his identity.

The death of an Indian student has made India press for urgent withdrawal of all the students from Ukraine especially Kharkiv, closer to Russia.
Bagchi said "Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine. "

Sources said efforts are also on to persuade Moscow to allow students to cross the border from Kharkiv to Russia.
