Kalita Majhi’s victory in the 2026 Assembly elections has become the talk of the town. Coming from an underprivileged background, her success has inspired many across rural Bengal.

Born into a poor family in Ausgram in East Burdwan district, Kalita grew up amid severe financial hardships. Poverty forced her to abandon formal education at an early age. To support her family, she began working as a domestic help in local households while still very young.

Instead, she spoke openly about her struggles, her life experiences, and her commitment to stand by the people of the region.

When the election results were announced, residents thronged outside her modest home to celebrate. Many described her victory as not just a personal achievement, but a triumph for countless women from marginalised and backward sections of society.

Yet, victory did not change Kalita’s lifestyle. According to media reports, the very next day after becoming an MLA, she was seen cooking, washing clothes, and carrying on with her daily household routine. Her simplicity and humility won widespread admiration.

Kalita Majhi’s rise is not merely a political story; it is also a reflection of the social realities of rural Bengal, where many women continue to struggle against poverty, neglect, and social barriers. For them, Kalita has emerged as a symbol of hope — proof that dreams can survive even amid hardship and adversity.
