Kashmir-based artisan Maqbool Ahmad Dar is the first artisan from the valley to prepare a carpet with a 'National Flag' design on it.

Dar who hails from Ashtangoo village of Bandipora district left his school due to a financial crisis and decided to become a carpet artisan at an early age.

Dar had to leave schooling after the seventh standard due to financial constraints.

He learnt carpet weaving from his maternal uncle.

With his business hit badly due to the pandemic, Dar decided to do something unique.

“I got an idea to prepare a unique and different carpet with a national flag design. It is a symbol of patriotism and love towards the nation that induced me to weave the Indian tricolour (Tiranga) on a carpet," he told a news agency.

He was helped in his effort by the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT)

The institute now is hoping that his work will not go unnoticed.
