Prime Minister Narendra Modi today invoked the pain of lakhs of Indians being forced to leave their homes and thousands being massacred in hate and violence of the partition of India on this day in 1947.

In what is otherwise known as the Independence Day of Pakistan, Modi  asked Indians to observe the day as Partition Horrors Remembrance day to commemorate the pain of those displaced and killed for no fault of theirs in the partition of the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the victims of partition. In a message, he said on Twitter:

Partition’s pains can never be forgotten. Millions of our sisters and brothers were displaced and many lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, 14th August will be observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.

As usual the Twitterati was overwhelmed with this new slogan coined by the PM and the trend #PartitionhorrorsremembranceDay was among the top trends on Twitter.

However, Modi also took the occasion to warn Indians that the day should make them learn the lessons from the partition. He wrote:

May the #partitionHorrorRemebranceday keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social division, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment.

Netizens responded with their personal stories of suffering the partition and appreciations Prime Minister for recognizing and institutionalizing the sufferings of the victims of partition.

Social media buffs were also congratulating Pakistan on its birthday and Indepdendence day as "Happy birthday,Beta" (son) implying Pakistan is a child of India.
