The threat of offensive action by the Indian Navy during Operation Sindoor was a major factor behind Pakistan’s ceasefire request, Vice Admiral K. Swaminathan said on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media ahead of Navy Day, the Western Naval Command chief said Operation Sindoor — launched in May this year following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people — saw an unprecedented mobilisation of more than 30 warships and submarines in a short span of time.
"Our frontline ships were poised for combat off the Makran coast, under the umbrella of the Vikrant Carrier Battle Group," he said.
The Navy’s offensive deployment included multiple successful weapon firings in April and forced the Pakistan Navy to stay close to its coastline, Swaminathan noted.

“In fact, the threat of offensive action by the Indian Navy could be considered one of the important factors in Pakistan requesting a ceasefire,” the Vice Admiral asserted.
