Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Hossein Amir-Abdollahian raised the issue of alleged insult to the Prophet of Islam during a meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi Wednesday, and also discussed bilateral issues. In a statement released after the meeting, the visiting minister said that India had assured him of appropriate action in the case and also discussed issues of mutual interests in detail with the NSA Doval.

The Iranian Minister said that Ajit Doval, on behalf of India, had assured respect to the Prophet of Islam and that those who did the wrong would be dealt with in an exemplary manner by the government and relevant agencies.

Iran is satisfied that the Indian government has taken stern action against those responsible for making disparaging comments about the Prophet of Islam. Amir-Abdollahian then praised the respect shown by the Indian people and authorities for the divine religions and their icons, especially for the Prophet Muhammad, saying that there is religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence between followers of different religions in India and their mutual and historical bonding is ideal.

Expressing satisfaction over the action taken by India, he said that it was important to take care of the sensitivities of Muslims.

Ajit Doval was quoted as reiterating the Indian government and officials respect the Prophet - those involved in the incident would be dealt with "at the level of the government and relevant agencies in a way that others do."

Amir-Abdollahian, who is on his first visit to India since the Raisi government came into power in Tehran, also met Minister for External Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and the two sides signed a bilateral agreement. They also discussed cooperation in legal aid in civil and commercial matters.
