Muzaffarnagar
Police in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district have registered a case against more than 20 individuals, including a district-level office-bearer of a Hindu organisation's youth wing, in connection with the alleged vandalism of a non-vegetarian roadside eatery.
The incident took place at a dhaba situated near Sisona village along the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Chapar police station.
According to police officials, the case was registered following a complaint lodged by the eatery's owner, Azad.
Circle Officer Ravishankar said that members associated with the Hindu Raksha Dal, including the district president of its youth wing, Hemant Sharma, had been named in the FIR. An investigation into the matter has been initiated.
In his complaint, Azad alleged that more than two dozen people arrived at the dhaba on Monday and created havoc at the establishment. He claimed that the group removed the flex signboard displayed outside the eatery and later set it on fire.
The complainant further alleged that the attackers assaulted some of his employees, damaged property inside the premises and issued threats regarding the operation of the establishment.
According to Azad, the group warned that non-vegetarian eateries would not be permitted to function along the route of the Kanwar Yatra, which is scheduled to take place in the coming months.
