More than 100 students living in two villages of Karkit and Budgam, located exactly right on the line of Control, in Kargil sector of Ladakh, have received free coaching for three months from senior teachers and other professionals.

The classes for free coaching were organised by Karkit Educational Welfare Society (KEWS).

The twin villages were with Pakistan till 1971 and India got them back after the war.

The initiative to work on improving the performance of students living in remote villages is part of the district’s thrust to raise educational levels of students. The teachers and counsellors were all local youth volunteer.

On the concluding day of the camp, students participated in various events like quiz competition, speech and naat recitation. The village elders also joined the programme and thanked the volunteers of KEWS and requested them to hold such a camp every year.

Local Councillor of the LAHDC Altaf Hussain and physician-specialist Dr Murtaza were present in the closing function.
