Tampered images of Muslim women on GitHub raise a storm

A cyber racket in which the criminals are targeting Muslim women by tampering with the pictures that they had posted on social media and posted the same on dubious websites in a manner to harass and humiliate them has come to surface in Mumbai and New Delhi.
 
Both the Mumbai Police and the Delhi police have launched investigations into the scam.
 
In Mumbai, the scam was exposed by Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who was formerly a journalist.
 
Taking the matter to Twitter, Priyanka Chaturvedi said that hundreds of pictures of Muslim women have been uploaded on an app using the hosting platform Github. Chaturvedi said that she has taken the matter to the Mumbai Police and demanded that the culprits be arrested at the earliest.
 
She tweeted, "I spoke to Mumbai Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rashmi Karandikar." They will investigate it. I have also spoken to the DGP of Maharashtra Police to intervene. Hopefully, people will fall behind Muslim women on the basis of such a wrong site.
She said, "I have repeatedly asked Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vishnuji to take strict action against those who target women through platforms like Selu Dal." It is a shame that this is being ignored. ''
 
Responding to the incident, Mumbai Police said that they have taken cognizance of the matter and asked the authorities concerned to take action. An official said that the Mumbai Cyber ​​Police have started investigating the controversial material.

Earlier, a woman journalist complained with the Delhi Police against unidentified persons, for posting her picture on a website "intending to embarrass and insult Muslim women."
 
She lodged an online complaint at CR Park police station in South Delhi, a copy of which she also shared on her Twitter handle. A woman journalist working for an online news portal called for an immediate FIR against a group of unidentified persons trying to "harass and insult Muslim women" on social media and the internet.
 
"I am shocked to learn that an inappropriate, unacceptable image of me is being tampered with on a website portal called Bulby.Github." the complaint said.
 
Immediate action is required in this regard, as it is meant to harass me and other independent women and journalists. Responding on Twitter, Delhi Police said that it has taken note of the matter.
