Veteran Congress leader Tajdar Babar dies

Veteran Congress leader Tajdar Babar today passed away after a brief illness in a south Delhi hospital early Saturday morning.

Tajdar Babar has been elected to the Legislative Assembly from Manto Road assembly constituency twice. She also won elections from Jangpura assembly constituency.

Babur was 85 years old.

Senior Congress leader and her son-in-law Imran Kidwai said that she breathed her last this morning. She was ill for a long time and was hospitalized in a private hospital in south Delhi.

Babar has been the president of Congress's Delhi Pradesh, NDMC and Delhi Haj Committee. After her death, people are posting their condolence messages on social media.

According to reports, his last rites will be performed at Panch Pir graveyard in Nizamuddin Basti Saturday evening.

Tajdar Babar is survived by a son and two daughters.

Her son Farhad Suri was the Mayor of the Unified Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2006 and was also the Leader of the Opposition of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation for five years.

During the rule of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Tajdar Babar was the President of the Delhi State Congress.

She was the Vice President of the New Delhi Municipal Council for a long time. She has been MLA twice from Manto Road assembly constituency and once from Jangpura assembly constituency.
