Wali Rahmani to be buried with state honours

Maulana Mohammed Wali Rahmani, a renowned Islamic scholar and the former secretary general of the All india Muslim personal law Board (AIMPLB), who succumbed to Covid-19 on Saturday, will be laid to rest with full state honours at his ancestral place of Munger.

This was announced by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a telephonic conversation with his son while offering condolences on the death of  Maulana Wali Rahmani.

His funeral will be held in Munger on Sunday 11 am.

Maulana Wali, 78, breathed his last in the Intensive care Unit of a private hospital in Patna where he was admitted four days ago.

Wali Rahmani, was the head of Imarat-e-sharia of Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand. This position gave him the status of Grand Mufti, authorized to announce the sighting of the Moon for various Islamic festivals.

He was also member of the Legislative Council of Bihar for one term.

He had taken the first jab of Corona vaccine on 18 March. Doctors said the vaccine becomes effective two weeks after the second jab. He had tested Corona positive within a week of inoculation.

His younger son Fahd Rahmani said that after he was admitted to the hospital his father’s condition never improved.
