The Covid-19 may be raging across India, but, as they say, the show must go on.

Following this spirit of life, two men who were infected with the Covid-19 virus just before their scheduled weddings, took their marital vows in different parts of the country – Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh and Alapphuza in Kerala – observing full SOPs related to the pandemic.

In both the cases, the authorities had intervened and agreed to the requests of the families of the brides and grooms that the wedding should be allowed as because of their respective situations these were unavoidable.

The officials were present on the scene of both the wedding to ensure the Covid protocols were being adhered to.

In Ratlam, Akash and Sanjana Verma wore PPE kits, gloves, facial masks and shields to take the ‘saat phera’ around the auspicious fire on Sunday.

Bride Abhirami wore the covid-19 protection gear to get married inside a room of the Government medical College, Alappuzha, where Sarath Mon, whom she was engaged to a year ago, and his mother were under treatment for Covid-19.

Sarath, who works in Qatar, and his mother had been admitted four days before the scheduled wedding.

In this case, the wedding ceremony was strictly finished in 20 minutes with officers of the government and medical staff overseeing it.

As the picture of PPE-kit wearing Akash Verma and Sanjana went viral on social media, trolls slammed them for going through the wedding so hastily. However, the reaction on the social media about the Kerala couple was positive. Both the weddings evoked media interest.

In fact, the Akash and Sanjan’s families pleaded with the authorities that wedding should be allowed because it’s the wish of some aged members of the clan to see them together.

Tehsildar, Naveen Garg had reached Akash Verma’s house soon after receiving the information about the wedding plans of the two families after the groom had tested positive. He tried to dissuade the families from going ahead with the plans. Akash was tested positive on April 18.

Sarath Mon, 28, had come from Qatar to get married to Abhirami, 20. Their wedding had already got much delayed due to corona.

As Hindus gets married at a fixed Mahurat (auspicious time), the families felt the wedding must happen since as per the almanac, there is no ‘muhurat’ for a long time in the coming months.

Sarath’s family contacted the authorities and sought permission for the wedding.  It was granted on the condition that all the Covid restrictions would be followed. Abhirami went in the full Covid protective gear to the hospital to solemnize her wedding.
