The Indian women’s hockey team reached the semi-finals defeating Canada 3-2 in their last group match on Wednesday.

Vandana Katariya, Navneet Kaur and Lalremsiami were the goal-scorers for India.

For Canada, Brienne Stairs and Hannah Haughan found the back of the net.

Both teams started the match tied at six points each. But with a better goal-difference, Canada only needed to draw to enter the last-four stage.

For India, however, it was a must-win game.

Starting aggressively in the first quarter India opened the scoring through the first penalty corner they earned in the second minute of the match.

Navneet Kaur increased the lead in the second quarter through a field goal.

Canada fought back well to score a goal each in the second and the third quarter.
