An unbeaten 266-run partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow helped England successfully chase 378 runs to win the final test match and level the five-match series against India 2-2

Needing 119 runs to win on the fifth day the unbeaten pair of Root and Bairstow steered the hosts in the first session of play to record the highest run-chase by England.

The duo took just 90 minutes to deny India their first series win on English soil since 2007.

The winning run came off Root’s bat-a reverse sweep off Jadeja for a single.

Root scored an unbeaten 142 off 173 balls and Bairstow was unbeaten on 114. This was Root's 11th test century since 2021.

Bairstow now has hit four centuries in his last five innings and has six tons against his name this year.

With this win, England gets hold of the Pataudi trophy with India.

Jasprit Bumrah was the player of the series for India for his 23 wickets. Joe Root was England’s player of the series. He scored an astonishing 737 runs at an average of 105. 28 with four centuries.

Jonny Bairstow was declared the man of the match for his centuries in both the English innings.
