The Indian men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy had to settle for a bronze medal after they lost to the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the semifinal of the ongoing BWF World Championship 2022 on Saturday.

Despite the loss, the duo are the first Indian men's pair win a medal at the championship.

They lost their last-four stage encounter 22-20, 18-21, 6-21. The match lasted for an hour and 17 minutes.

Earlier on Friday, the two made history by becoming the first Indian men's pair to secure a medal in BWF World Championships after defeating Japanese duo of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi in the quarterfinals.

This is India’s 13th medal in the history of the world championship.

Earlier, in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, Chirag and Satwik had won a gold medal in the men's doubles category.
