New Delhi. Baloch human rights activist Karima Baloch’s body was confiscated and her family members whisked away to an unknown place in a chartered plane by the Pakistani Army and Rangers apparently to avoid public outrage.

A month after Karima was found dead by lakeside in Toronto, Canada, where she had been living after fleeing Pakistan, her body was flown home. While a large gathering comprising friends and family awaited for her at Layari, Karachi, for paying their last tributes, the Army took the coffin away and also forced her family members in a chartered plane.

Her brother Sameer Mehram broke the news of Army taking away her sister’s body on the Twitter. “At this point, my family is being escorted by Pakistani authorities via road through unknown routes out of Karachi. We don’t know where they are heading to. This is what hijacking of a body looks like.”

Baloch activists living in exile were angry at the behavior of the Pakistani Forces. Though the Canadian police found nothing suspicious about the death of the 37-year old campaigner, it’s generally seen as a covert operation by the Pakistani State. The circumstances of her death were akin to that of another Baloch dissident living in Sweden.

The body was apparently taken to Trump, her ancestral village, and given a quiet burial.

Sammer demandedan interntional invetigation into his sister's death. He also said her body had been taken away against the wishes of the family.

Baloch rebels are fighting for independence of their land and have launched an armed struggle for it. Pakistani Army has received several setback in Balochistan recenly and lost a number of soldiers in violent attacks by Baloch rebels.
