New Delhi: An activist for ‘Independent Tibet,’ Tenzin Tsundue, has announced that he will embark on a month-long foot march from Dharamshala (in Himachal Pradesh) to Delhi to highlight the Chinese threat to India and the world.

Tenzin is known for giving a fright to erstwhile Chinese premier, Zhu Rongji, when he came to visit India in 2002. Tenzin climbed the scaffolding outside the Mumbai hotel where Zhu was staying, and held up a banner ‘Free Tibet: China, Get Out’ besides the Tibetan flag.

Tenzin has been participating in several demonstrations emphasizing that Tibetan independence is the best security for India against China. Read the note he made public on Thursday regarding his proposed foot march:

WALK A MILE FOR TIBET

When the Galwan Valley massacre struck India last June, most Indians couldn't even locate this place on the map, much less understand why Chinese PLA soldiers killed our jawans. How did they come to Indian borders in the first place?

I am starting a march to Delhi from Dharamshala in two days. The main aim is to bring India’s focus on Tibet, the missing link in the India-China crisis. Our Indian brothers and sisters need to understand the reasons for China's constant threat to India.

China is creating border disputes not only with India, but also 14 of its other neighbouring countries. China's imperialist designs not only aim to expand its land and sea territories, and Xi Jingping has proved to all that the real aim of the People's Republic of China is to strategically become the global super power.

The March to Delhi will begin on the Tibetan New Year Losar, on 12 February 2021, and conclude in Delhi on March 10, Tibetan National Uprising Day. It's a one-man march with two supporters for logistics and public communication.

The distance is 500 kilometres and I plan to cover this in one month, camping every night on the roadside in night shelters:

  • From Dharamshala, I will walk through the Kangra valley and enter the plains of Punjab from Una. I will pay my respects at the Shri Anandpur Sahib Gurudwara and head to Mohali, Panchukula and Chandigarh.
  • From there, I will head towards Delhi by via Karnal, Ambala and Sonepat.

Despite India’s adherence to One-China policy, China does not reciprocate to this policy. Instead Beijing continues to stake claim to the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh, parts of Ladakh, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and Sikkim, and has dragged India to the UN on Kashmir.

During the course of this one-month journey, I will petition the Government of India to repeal its One-China policy and ask everybody on the road and online to sign this in mass scale. If China does not respect One-India Policy, why is India condemned to this old defunct principle?

I will lead a global campaign petitioning different head of states to repeal their One-China Policy, and recognize Tibet, East Turkestan, and Southern Mongolia as occupied countries, as well as support Hong Kong’s struggle for democracy and the independence of Taiwan.

Individuals and organizations can support the campaign by writing articles, poetry, letters, organising webinars, lectures; sing, dance and make arts, films, cartoons, slogans; vlog and blog, speak to the media, post awareness materials on social networks, and help share and forward infomedia.

Walk a mile for Tibet. Join me for a mile, for an hour.
