Azharuddin of Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh may have given two solutions to India’s glaring problems – management of urban waste and pollution.

The maker of a solar car out of plastic and metallic trash, this 20-year-old engineering student has shown what innovation means.

Azharuddin comes from a family where he may have never played with fancy toys and puzzles to prod his curiosity about vehicles. His father worked hard to raise his only son; his mother is unlettered. Yet his parents made sure Azharuddin becomes an engineer.

Azharuddin, who lives in Muradnagar, is studying mechanical engineering in college, yet in all practical sense he has become one.

Azharuddin is good at fishing discarded things from a pile of junk and turn them into vehicles.

His innovation – an electric car – emerged out of the junkyard.

Today he is not only receiving accolades for his innovation but his car is also in demand commercially. He has already received online orders from abroad.

Besides, Azharuddin has also made an electric bicycle that can go up to 100 kilometres after charging one time. The branded electric bicycles in the market can run only 30 to 40 km in one run.

Azharuddin studied in the local public school. He is second-year student of B.Tech at Subharti University, Meerut.

In view of his innate talent, the university has waived off his fees. His college is also supporting him in innovations and spreading the word about his work.

Along with his electric car and electric bicycle, Azharuddin has also designed a solar wheelbarrow. This doesn’t require charging.

Now he is making efforts to get recognition for his e-cart (electric cart) from the government.

His e-cart is powered by solar energy and can also be charged with electricity.

His innovation comes at a very low price and can also be used for public transport.

He has already received a few orders for his solar car from big housing societies that prefer pollution-free carts. The vehicle can also be used in zoos, monuments etc for the movement of visitors and officials.

At present commercial electric carts in the market are operated with a battery. Azharuddin provides a cheaper option with his solar version.

A residential society in Hyderabad has ordered six e-carts from Azharuddin.

It cost him 1.5 lakh rupees to make his first electric cart (cart). His one cart has been sent to Dubai.

Azharuddin has started getting orders for his e-cycle too.
