The Indian government today emphasized that the offensive anti Prophet tweets and comments do not reflect the views of the government.

The MEA reiterated the government standpoint at its weekly media briefing today in response to a question on the global controversy triggered by provocative anti Prophet remarks by two functionaries of the BJP.

“Let me just emphasize what I have been saying and by now, you are very clear about what we have been saying.  We have already made it pretty clear that the tweets and the comments do not reflect the views of the government. This has been conveyed to our interlocutors as also the fact that action has been taken by the concerned quarters against those who made the comments and tweets. I really don’t think, I have anything additional to say on this,’’ said MEA Official Spokesperson, Mr Arindam Bagchi.

Asked about outreach by the Indian government, the MEA Official Spokesperson said that Indian Ambassadors regularly brief their interlocutors on issues and concerns of the day. “ They are also in regular touch with headquarters. In fact, this is their job.’’

To another question regarding the meeting between the National Security Advisor and the Iranian Foreign Minister, the MEA spokesperson, said, “ Look,  I usually don’t like to comment on the comments between senior dignitaries. So, certainly on the NSA and the Iranian Foreign Minister, I would not like to comment on what their conversation was. I don’t have any comment on that.’’
