Bhartiya Janata Party leader Devendra Fadnavis and the leader of the Shiv Sena rebels Eknath Shinde are likely to meet Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to stake a claim for government formation following the resignation of the chief minister Udhaav Thackeray who has lost the support of his party legislators.

Eknath Shinde arrived in Mumbai from Goa to Mumbai this afternoon.

Rebel MLA Deepak Kesarkar disclosed this to the media persons claiming their faction will form a government with the BJP soon.

Sources said Shinde held a meeting with all rebel MLAs this morning before leaving for Mumbai with a 'support letter'.

Shinde told the media persons that he was going to Mumbai to meet the Maharashtra Governor. "I am going to meet the Governor. Rest all MLAs are here in Goa. We will let you know our next decision and steps," Shinde said.

Shinde said so far no discussion had been held with the BJP on the power-sharing formulae like how many ministerial positions will be given to the rebel MLAs in the new government. He said, “it will take place soon.” With the split in Shiv Sena, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha.

He was escorted by a police force during his travel to the Dabolim airport amidst tight security.

The BJP senior leaders from Goa also held meetings with Shinde and the rebel MLAs since Wednesday night.

He and other MLAs had landed in Goa from Guwahati on Wednesday night.
