Flood threat in Yamuna, alert issued

The water of the Yamuna river has been rising due to intermittent rainfall in and around the capital and the heavy rain in the hills around.

In Haryana,159,000 cusecs of water released from Hathnikund barrage because the rise in level of the river. Jamuna has already crossed the danger mark.

The water level of Jumna in Delhi will rise further in the next few hours, that could cause many problems to the people living in the low-lying areas around it.

 The IMD has forecast light rain with thunder in Delhi and adjoining areas.

Meanwhile, life in the hilly areas has been completely disrupted due to rains and landslides in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

On Friday, the Delhi administration issued an 'alert' after the water level in the Jumna River rose to 205.22 meters.

Due to rains in north western India, the water level in Yamuna has come very close to the danger mark of 205.33 meters.

The Irrigation and Flood Control Department has deployed 13 boats in different areas and 21 others are on standby.

Delhi Police and East Delhi District Administration have started evacuating people living in the Jumna plains in the capital.

Due to this, water is likely to spread in the low-lying areas of Faridabad and Palwal. Villagers along the Jamuna  riverfront have been asked to evacuate.
