In a major development the issue of Muslims offering Friday Namaz in public places in Gurugram, a city in Haryana adjacent to the capital New Delhi, and that was being objected to by some Hindu groups, has been settled amicably. The Muslims and Hindus have agreed to allow the Friday prayers at 18 designated places in the city and that if anyone objects, he would be dealt with by both the communities jointly.
The final agreement was reached in the meeting convened by Dr. Yash Garg, District Deputy Commissioner, Gurugram. The Muslim National Forum and the clerics of the Gurugram Imam organization along with the Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti and police officials attended the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the Muslim bodies submitted a memorandum to the district administration on Monday in which they said they have decided that the Friday prayers will be held at 12 places on the land of masjid, madarsa, and Waqf Board. Besides, it will also be held temporarily at six places till an alternative arrangement is made. The groups of people offering prayers will pay the maintenance fee fixed by the administration for the maintenance.
Thereafter the Muslim National Forum and the Imam Organisation have decided to collectively deal with disruptors, if any, in the future the memorandum said. The designated 12 places are Jama Masjid Sadar Bazaar, Rajiv Chowk, Pataudi Chowk Mosque, Sector-57 Mosque, Village Chauma, Sheetla Colony, Shanti Nagar, Atul Kataria Chowk, Devilal Colony, Sarai Alwardi Mosque, Badshahpur, and Darbaripur Road-Badshahpur.
The Imam Organisation in its memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner said that it wants to ensure peace and harmony in Gurugram, check the tendency to exploit and stop politics in the matter.
The Muslim bodies have also asked for removing the encroachments from 19 Waqf Board properties in Gurugram that are either on lease or illegally occupied. District Administration provided those places for prayers.
"We have decided that the Friday Namaz will not be offered at 20 places. We required six places temporarily to offer Friday prayers for a few days by paying the maintenance fee fixed by the administration. The organization will also submit documents of the designated clerics to the district administration," the Imam Organisation said. "We have appealed to the administration to get 32 premises of masjids, madrasas, and Waqf Board cvacated so that the Namaz can be offered peacefully," Khurshid Razaka, Convener of Muslim National Forum, told the media persons. The Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti was also engaged in talks with the district administration, demanding that Muslims must not be allowed to pray in the open outside Muslim-dominated neighborhoods.
"Sanyukt Hindu Sangharsh Samiti and the Gurugram Imam Organisation in a meeting with the district administration have decided that Friday prayers will be held at 12 places, while temporarily it will also be offered at six places by paying the maintenance fee fixed by the administration," Rajeev Mittal, a member of the right-wing group that was opposed to the Namaz in public places said.
