In a first such move by the Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, it hosted a group of MPs from Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinmool Congress, Biju Janata Dal, DMK, and All India Muslim League on Wednesday to raise support for the causes related to Indian Muslims and Palestine.
The Jamait president, Maulana Mahmood Asad Madni, presented a report on “sensitive’ issues like anti-minority attitude prevailing in the country, government atrocities on Bengali-speakers in Assam, government's stand on Palestine, hate incidents, ongoing SIR in Bihar, and caste-based census.”
Madni alleged that the policy adopted by the Modi government about Palestine and Israel was against the historical position and moral values of India.
“The Palestine issue is no longer just about being pro-Palestine or not, but it has become a pro-humanity issue. Today, humanity is in turmoil there, but we are turning away from standing with them, even based on humanity, which is shameful.”
In Assam, Madani said, Muslims were being systematically evicted from Assam. ”... here a particular community is being targeted by breaking the law, which is not good for the country,” he said.
Madni’s proposal to send an all-party delegation to Assam was supported by MPs. Muslim League MP from Malappuram E.T. Basheer, however, wanted the inclusion of ‘intellectuals” in the delegation for effective results.
Shivpal Singh Patel, SP, alleged that besides Muslims, “atrocities are being heaped on all the weaker sections.”
Harinder Malik, SP, blamed the BJP for implementing “Golwalkar's ideology, in which there is no place for minorities.”
Nadimul Haque, TMC, alleged that Bengali Muslims were being systematically targeted in different parts of the country.
Ziaur Rahman Burke, SP, called for a “sustained movement against hatred and approaching the courts against it.”
Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi expressed deep concern over the atrocities being committed on Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam. He likened the situation of Muslims in Assam to the forcible eviction of people in Palestine.
Chandrashekhar Azad said the alleged BJP was implementing the agenda of Hindutva, and the opposition must stand up for the truth.
Kishanganj MP Mohammad Javed said that Bengalis were being harassed and Dalits were also being targeted.
Congress MP from West Bengal, Isa Khan Choudhary, said that Bengali-speakers were being harassed across the country “by the BJP and its allies.”
Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha, Mujibullah, alleged that law and order were deteriorating under the BJP government in his state.
National Conference MP Mian Altaf Larvi said, “whether it is Palestine or Assam, the country is suffering huge losses due to these policies. India's reputation is being damaged at the international level.”
Lakshadweep MP Muhammad Hamdulla Sayeed said that Muslims are being targeted in Lakshadweep, and there are attempts to remove Arabic language from the curriculum and close madrassas.
Rajya Sabha MP Haris Biran asked the MPs to present “our cases in the courts with full preparation.”
