The Left Democratic Front led by Pinarayi Vijayan scored a victory in Kerala Assembly elections and created history by becoming the first-ever party to be re-elected in the State  where elections were taken as a test of people’s rating of the government’s response to an awfully bad Covid-19 pandemic situation.

The Left Front won 99 seats in the 140-member Legislative Assembly. Against this, the Congress-led United Democratic front’s score of 41.

The BJP failed to win even on a single seat and in fact lost the one – Nemom – it had won in the last election. Its key candidate Metroman K Sreedharan, Minister K J Alphons, K Rajasekhran all lost their elections.

The local media and pollsters had predicted LDF victory and yet had failed to map the real wave in favour of the ruling Front.

The health Minister KK Shailaja, who is leading the State’s grim battle against the Covid-19 has won with a record margin of 60,963 from Mattanur.

Chief minister Penirayi Vijayan has asked people not to celebrate the party’s victory. In a statement, he said, "The people of Kerala have once again reposed faith in the Left front. But this is not a time to celebrate due to the large spread of Covid-19. We have to continue the fight against Covid-19."
