People throng Shankaracharya temple in Srinagar on Raksha Bandhan

The Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar, Kashmir, was the scene of devotion and celebration on the occasion of the festival of Raksha Bandhan as thousands of people visited it for prayers.

Long queues were seen outside the historic temple located on the top of the hill close to the Dal Lake.

Heavy security was seen around the temple as the hill also has the Doordarshan transmission tower.

Some of the women even tied Rakhi to the wrists of security personnel on duty.

People also visited various other temples for prayers on the occasion of Rakhi. On Thursday, also people are expected to visit the temples for Shravan Purnima
