Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday extended greetings to air warriors, veterans, and their families on the occasion of the 93rd Air Force Day, lauding the Indian Air Force (IAF) for its bravery, discipline, and commitment in defending the nation and serving during crises.
“Greetings to all the courageous Air Warriors and their families on Air Force Day. The Indian Air Force epitomises bravery, discipline and precision. They have played a vital role in safeguarding our skies, including during the most challenging situations,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X. He also praised the IAF’s humanitarian efforts, adding, “Their role during natural calamities is very commendable. Their commitment, professionalism, and indomitable spirit continue to make every Indian proud.”
President Murmu, in her message, also saluted the service and excellence of the force. “Warm greetings to all air warriors, veterans and their families on Air Force Day! The Indian Air Force has always demonstrated courage, commitment, and excellence. Our air warriors protect our skies and serve the nation with tireless dedication during disasters and humanitarian missions,” she wrote. The President further said the IAF has made the nation proud with its strength and readiness to face every challenge.
Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial in the national capital.
The main parade and air display were held at the Hindon Air Base, one of India’s largest and most strategic bases. This year’s celebrations highlight Operation Sindoor, which the IAF credits with restoring the “rightful place” of offensive air action in the national consciousness. The showcase underlined the force’s operational strength, technological capabilities, and humanitarian role.
The static and aerial displays featured India’s cutting-edge aircraft fleet, including the Rafale, Sukhoi Su-30MKI, and MiG-29 fighter jets, along with the indigenous Netra AEW&C, C-17 Globemaster III, Akash Surface-to-Air Missile System, C-130J Hercules, Apache attack helicopters equipped with Longbow radar, and the Advanced Light Helicopter. The S-band Rohini radar was also part of the display, underscoring the IAF’s growing self-reliance and modernisation.
Adding an emotional touch to the event, the recently retired MiG-21 Bison—which served the IAF for over six decades—was showcased as a tribute to its storied service.
