Renowned Urdu poet Munawar Rana fears for his life; he had lodged a complaint with the police in Raibareili, Uttar Pradesh, against his nephew and alleged that he is conspiring to kill him.

The Rana family alleges that their relatives are eyeing their share of the 5.5 bighas ancestral land. The price of the land is estimated at around Rs 8 crore.

Munawar Rana had earlier offered his personal land to the government for rebuilding Babri masjid on his land. He had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this purpose.

This Rana family owns large swathes of land and some of it is disputed among the clan.

Tabrez Rana, the son of Munawar Rana, was attacked over this land and related transactions.

Munawar Rana has accused his brothers of attacking his son.

On Monday late evening, Tabrez was attacked by two bike-borne miscreants. Munawwar Rana had reached Rae Bareli at that time to resolve the dispute over his ancestral land.  He had stopped for filling oil at a petrol pump when two bike-borne persons had opened fire on him.

Tabrez had a narrow escape in the firing. Although his car was hit by bullets. Tabrez also took out his licensed gun to counter the attackers, who had fled by then.

Now the police are looking into the CCTV camera footage to find the facts of the attack. Tabrez had named his uncle in carrying out the attack.
