Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait has welcomed the repeal of the farm laws but insisted that the farmers would continue to push for minimum support price (MSP) for crops.

“The repeal of farm laws is a tribute to all 750 farmers who lost their lives during the agitation. The protest will continue as other issues including MSP are still pending,” said Tikait. We will not leave the protest site before any discussion on MSP.”

His reaction came shortly after the Lok Sabha passed the bill repealing the three controversial farm laws on the first day of the winter session.

On November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an address to the nation had said that the three farm laws that sparked a year-long agitation by farmer on Delhi’s borders would be repealed in ‘national interest’.

Tikait had then said that irrespective of the laws being repealed, the farmers would continue their protest till the government brings a law to guarantee MSP.
