The Supreme Court will hear pleas challenging the Agnipath recruitment scheme for defence forces on July 15.

Various petitions were filed before the top court challenging the central government’s new recruitment policy.

The Central government has also filed a caveat application in the SC urging it to hear the government in the petitions filed before the apex court.

The announcement of the new recruitment scheme on June 14 led to widespread protests in parts of the country due to the short-term duration of employment.

Under this scheme recruits called ‘Agniveers’ will be recruited for a four-year period. At the end of the term, only 25 per cent will be absorbed full-time in the armed forces and the rest will be asked to leave with a one-time financial package.
