Terrorist killed in J&K's Bandipora gunfight

Police have killed a Lashkar-e-toiba terrorist involved in assassination of a taxi driver Mohamad Shafi Lone on October 5, the day a leading businessman and a street hawkers were also killed in Sriagar.

Identified as Imtiaz, he was killed in an encounter by security forces at Gundjahangir, Hajin area north Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

"One unidentified terrorist killed. Search going on," police said.

Mohammad Shafi Lone alias Sonu was killed in cold blood by a gang of five over ground workers of terror organisation. He was invited by one of them to a particular area where a trap had been laid for him.

Imtiaz was waiting for Sonu and killed him on the spot.

Earlier the gunfight took place after a joint team of the police and the security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about the presence of terrorists.

The police has already arrested four others involved in the conspirary.

As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the terrorists were hiding they came under a heavy volume of fire that triggered the encounter.

Earlier in the day, one terrorist was killed and one policeman injured in another encounter between the terrorists and security forces at Khagund Verinag area in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said.
