Shahnawaz Akhtar, a traveler onboard the Shatabadi Expressman who was fasting during the month of Ramazan was in for a pleasant surprise when he was served a special meal for Iftar on the train.

Shahnawaz Akhtar shared his experience of being treated especially onboard the Indian Railways on Twitter and many users shared his post on various social media platforms.

While thanking the Indian Railways, Shahnawaz Akhtar also shared a photo of his Iftar platter.

He wrote in his tweet that thanks to Indian Railways for Iftar, I was given breakfast while boarding at Howrah Shatabdi in Dhanbad, I told the pantryman that I am fasting. So give me some tea in a while They asked me, "Are you fasting?"

I nodded yes, and then another person brought iftar (meal).
Shahnawaz Akhtar continued receiving more surprise as his post went viral and he expressed his happiness once again and shared a longish piece he wrote for a portal on his experience"
Meanwhile, IRTC officials said the onboard catering manager had personally arranged meals for the passengers who were fasting.
An official said that while IRCTC had been offering vegetarian meals for Hindu travelers during Navaratri, no such service was available during Ramazan.

Officials said the onboard catering manager had personally arranged the meal for Shahnawaz Akhtar. As the catering staff was preparing for Iftar, a passenger boarded the coach. The passenger told him that he was fasting. The staff shared an Iftar meal with him. This is basic humanity.

Prakash Kumar Behera, On-Board Catering Supervisor, IRCTC, said that the post was well received by the staff.

However, he said that “Shahnawaz Akhtar should thank the staff of the train and not the railways,” hinting that there were no directions for serving meals to fasting Muslims and it was an individual’s initiative.

The Minister for railways Ashwini Vaishnav reacted to the tweet and said:

The whole Indian Railways family is impressed with your comments and hope you enjoyed the meal. This is a perfect example of how the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi works with the slogan of All for All, All for Development, and All for Faith, Jay Hind!
