Ferrari's Carlos Sainz scored his maiden Grand Prix at the end of a thrilling, incident-packed 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The race was disrupted by red flags and safety cars and in which championship-leading Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and title contending Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc both held the lead but finished off the podium.

Red Bull's Sergio Perez recovered from an early collision to rise from last place to second and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took the final podium place.

Key to Sainz's victory was a late Safety Car caused by Esteban Ocon retiring his Alpine-Sainz and then attacking teammate Charles Leclerc on fresh tyres at the restart.

Sainz claimed his first top podium finish in his 150th Grand Prix start.

Hamilton, meanwhile, delighted the crowd with his second straight podium and 13th at Silverstone-an all-time record at a single venue–in third place.

Championship leader Max Verstappen could only take the seventh position, the early race leader having suffered some form of damage that hobbled his Red Bull, the Dutchman holding off the Haas of Mick Schumacher in the final laps, as the German scored his first points in F1 finishing eighth.
