Rashid Khan quits Afghan team's captaincy

Leg-spinner Rashid Khan stepped down as Afghanistan T20 captain soon after the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) named his squad for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in UAE and Oman in October-November this year.

The all-rounder announced the news, minutes after he confirmed his country's World Cup squad late on Thursday, social media.

"The selection committee and ACB (Afghanistan Cricket Board) have not taken my consent for the team announced by ACB media," Rashid Khan said in a statement on social media.

“As the captain and the person responsible for the nation, I reserve the right to be a part of the team selection. I am deciding to step down from the role of captain of the Afghanistan T20 team with immediate effect. He wrote on Twitter:

Now it seems that Mohammad Nabi will take over the captaincy for the World Cup.

Rashid Khan was part of the announced team for this prestigious tournament, joining the team along with fellow all-rounders Mohammad Nabi and Sharafuddin Ashraf.

Afghanistan will begin their tournament in Sharjah on October 25 against one of the two qualifying teams in Group B. Afghanistan will also face India, New Zealand and Pakistan in the group stage.
