Naz Fatima is UP's first Muslim woman driver

This International Women's Day was a special day for Naz Fatima.

A science graduate, Naz Fatima, started her training as a bus driver in the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, and to eventually, join as the first Muslim woman driver of the state bus fleet.

A resident of Kamalganj, Farrukhabad, the 24-year-old Naz is getting trained at the Model Driving Training and Research Institute, Vikas Nagar, Kanpur along 25 other women.

Naz said after the passing away of her father ten years ago her mother Hadisa Bano raised her and her two siblings.

After graduating, she was in search of a job to support her family and had responded to an advertisement in a newspaper for a bus driver job.

Naz said the training is a challenge and she is determined to complete it. Besides, as a driver of the bus, she also understands her responsibilities towards the safety of passengers.

Naz said as a woman she had never faced any discrimination from her community and from others.

Naz said that he has also done a diploma in B.Sc Nursing. However, while looking a for a job and she was selected for driver’s post she consulted her mother who had no issues with it.

She was congratulated by her family, friends, and relatives for her decision to join the State service. The training institute's principal SP Singh also praised Naz.

Naz said, “I just want to complete the training and run the bus and show the world that women are second to none."
