The Taliban have arrested Salima Mazari, Governor of one of the provinces of the Balkh province, who had taken up the arms to fight the Taliban.
At a time when many Afghan political leaders including President Ashraf Ghani had fled the country, Salima Mazari stayed on till the fall of Balkh province and also her district of Chahar Kint to the Taliban.
Reports say the woman leader has been captured by the Taliban after the insurgents gained control over the entire nation and the Afghan leadership, including President Ashraf Ghani, fled the country.
Salma Mazari had become one of the three governors in Afghanistan three years ago. While a lot of the Afghan provinces crumbled without much of a fight, under her leadership Chahar Kint gave a tough fight to the Taliban.
She used to travel across cheering up the government forces and boosting their morale.
Until the final fall, Chahar Kint was the only region under the control of a woman which did not fall under any of the terror groups in the region.
She has successfully negotiated surrender of 120 Talibans in her district.
Over the past few years, Salima Mazari had gained much praise and attention being a woman leader in Afghanistan.
She had however fears about her life.
